No. There are over 200 types of mental disorders as per the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) International Classification of Diseases (ICD 11th edition). The majority of common mental disorders require only short-term medications. A very few challenging mental disorders, like chronic schizophrenia, only require long-term medication. What was once a popular treatment method for conditions like ‘Hysteria’ is no longer used in Clinical Psychiatry. Even when used, the benefits are transient and superficial. If at all it is recommended, it is more in the area of self-hypnosis for managing a healthy lifestyle.
For long-lasting benefits, we have other more effective psychotherapies in place of hypnosis.
